Pressac fuels energy saving with new electric vehicle charging points
UK smart building and connected technology manufacturer, Pressac Communications, has installed new electric vehicle charging points with help from a government grant scheme. The move is in line with its commitment to energy saving and aims to future-proof its Nottingham head office by offering energy saving options to staff and visitors and encouraging the uptake of electric cars.
The government’s Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme that provides support towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of electric vehicle charge points. Provided by the Office for Low Vehicle Emissions (OLEV), the grant offers a contribution up to 75% of the purchase and installation costs, up to a maximum of £500 for each socket.
Two dual socket chargers have been installed in the car park at Pressac enabling the charging of up to four electric vehicles. With a saving through the scheme of £2,000, the sockets cost approx £1,800.
Following the successful application for a WCS voucher, the vehicle charging points were supplied by and fitted by McNally EV in less than a day. They can be accessed by signing out a key to enable an individual to plug in and charge an electric vehicle. At 22kW charging takes approximately fours hours, depending on the vehicle and battery size.
“We’ve installed two electric charging points in the car park for visitors and staff to be able to power their vehicles and to save energy and money in the long term. Many of our staff are preferring to drive electric cars or at least hybrids, so this will prepare us for the demands of our future workforce.
We are able to monitor the levels of energy used and eventually will be able to see how we offset the costs of fuel. Also, from April 2018, the value of electricity used will not be taxed as a benefit in kind in the same way that petrol or diesel is, so it is hoped that it will start encouraging more people to use electric cars.”

Pressac will maintain the charging points for a minimum of three years and will be providing usage data to OLEV (in an anonymised form and in accordance to data protection legislation) to guide future policy development on the uptake of electric vehicles and energy consumption. Energy saving is a core offering in Pressac product portfolio and by taking part in this scheme they hope the data will demonstrate the associated benefits of energy saving and will remove a barrier for employers who are currently considering the installation of similar charging points.
